Men’s basketball team mark 2 in win column

With the basketball season now in full swing, the men’s team won its first two games at home against Dickinson State University and Montana State University-Northern. The team beat Dickinson State and MSU-Northern with scores of 84-79 and 69-61, respectively. CSC’s record is now 2-1, with the only loss coming from the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
Against the Blue Hawks, the Eagles led for the entire game, including a 14-point lead at halftime. That lead was diminished late in the second half but Sharif Black, sophomore of Detroit, hit six clutch free throws in the final minute of the game to seal the victory for the Eagles.
The Eagles shot nearly 50 percent from the field, and an impressive 42.9 percent from behind the 3-point line. CSC also put 19 assists in the book, five of them from senior Justyn Anderson, of Las Vegas. Playing smart, they also on turned the ball over 11 times.
Black, who only played 14 minutes because of foul trouble, led the Eagles in the scoring column, with 17 points, nine of which came from the foul line. He also added three assists.
Billy Johnson, junior of Cedar Hill, Texas, added 13 points on six made shots. Andre Miller, junior of San Mateo, California, also scored 11 points. Miller also grabbed seven rebounds. Senior Davante McCallam, of Miami, also pulled down seven boards, three of which were offensive.
All the Eagles that stepped on to the court scored at least one time.
Against the MSU-Northern Lights, CSC played aggressive defense and rebounded exceptionally well. The team totaled 49 rebounds, nine of which were brought down by Black. The Eagles held the Lights to shooting well under 40 percent from the field. Even with the heavy defense, MSU’s Warren Edmonson, senior of Portland, Oregon, managed to score 19 points, which led all scorers.
The Eagles did not shoot as well as the night before, but still managed to shoot over 40 percent from the field but only managed to make about 66 percent of their free throws. Jordan Perry, sophomore of Murrietta, California, led the Eagles with 14 points followed by junior Warren Gordon, of Indianapolis, who added 11. McCallam added eight and grabbed seven rebounds.
CSC’s next game will be at Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Wolves are 1-2 on the season, but also have two exhibition game losses against Briar Cliff University and the University of Nebraska. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m., Central Standard Time.
