Northern State attacks Eagles, winning 83-63

After trailing 24 points to Northern State University at halftime, the Eagles were unable to mount a comeback, losing to the Wolves, 83-63, Saturday, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. The Eagles fell back to a 2-2 record.

A trio of Wolves contributed well over half of the team’s total points. Mack Arvidson, redshirt junior of Grand Forks, North Dakota, and Skye Warwick, senior of Rapid City, South Dakota, each added 18 points while Darin Peterka, redshirt junior of Miller, South Dakota, scored 16.

As a team, the Eagles were only able to shoot 23.1 percent from behind the three-point line and just under 65 percent from the free-throw line. The team only turned the ball over 16 times, but the Wolves were able to score 25 points off turnovers.

NSU also shot over 50 percent from the field and nearly 60 percent from long range. They also tallied 16 turnovers, which the Eagles were able to score 20 points from.

Warren Gordon, junior of Indianapolis, led CSC offensively, scoring 21 points and grabbing three steals. Gordon also shot perfectly from the free-throw line, making all five he attempted. Senior Davante McCallam, of Miami, finished with 18 points and led the Eagles in rebounds with seven. Andre Miller, junior of San Mateo, California, added five boards to go along with seven points and three steals.

CSC will open RMAC play against Regis University, Saturday. The Rangers are 2-4 on the season, and are currently on a two-game losing streak. They average about 65 points per game and have a 45.3 field goal percentage.

The Rangers are led by Dexter Sienko, sophomore of Spokane, Washington, who averages 15 points per game and 6.7 rebounds. Freshman Jarrett Brodbeck, of Yorba Linda, California, averages just under 14 points per game and three rebounds.

Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m., Saturday, following the conclusion of the women’s game.
