The Chadron State track team sent 15 athletes to Colorado School of Mines, Golden, this weekend to compete in the annual CSM Alumni Open. Long jumpers Damarcus Simpson, sophomore of Lafayette, Georgia, and Stachia Reuwsaat, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, won their events and hit automatic NCAA qualifying marks for the National Indoor Track and Field Championships in March, and were named as RMAC Indoor Field Athletes of the Week.

Simpson, competing in his first indoor meet this season, won the men’s long jump with a leap of 25 feet 1 ¾ inch, automatically qualifying for the NCAA D-II National Indoor Track and Field Championships. Simpson also competed in the 60 meter dash running a NCAA D-II provisional qualifying time of 6.8 seconds in prelims. Simpson did not finish in the finals due to a false start.

On the men’s side, seven other athletes placed at the meet. Andre Woodson, sophomore of Sacramento, California, finished second in the 60, running a time of 6.74. His time is a NCAA D-II provisional qualifying time and is currently the fastest time in the event in D-II track and field.

Blake Jacobs, redshirt freshman of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, placed third in the weight throw behind two D-I athletes with a toss of 53 feet, 11 inches. Sophomore thrower David Aldridge, of Omaha, also placed in the weight throw. He finished eighth with a throw 48-6 3/4.

For the women, Reuwsaat finished the highest winning the long jump with a leap 20-8. Her current mark is a nine-inch improvement after she went 19-11 at Black Hills State University indoor meet on Dec. 5.

Reuwsaat also finished fifth in the 60 with a NCAA D-II provisional qualifying time of 6.79.

Ashlyn Hanson, sophomore thrower of Seward, finished seventh in the shot put with a throw of 35-2 1/2. Angelique Urenda, junior of Pueblo, Colorado, was seventh in high jump with a personal best clearing 5 feet, 3 inches.

The Eagles will not compete again until after the New Year when they travel to Black Hills State University on Jan. 16, 2016.
