Eagle wrestlers go undefeated at Augustana duals

The Chadron State wrestling team traveled to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, last weekend to compete in three non-conference duals hosted by Augustana University. The Eagle wrestlers competed against Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri;  Northwestern College, Orange City, Iowa; and Morningside College, Sioux City, Iowa.

The Eagles beat NCAA D-II Truman State 26-19, Northwestern College 26-15, and Morningside 22-16.

In the dual against Truman State, Taylor Summers, junior of Plymouth, 133-pounds, and Chance Helmick, sophomore of Beatrice, 165-pounds, both scored pins for Chadron State. Terrence McKinney, sophomore of Spokane, Washington, 149-pounds, tallied a technical fall against his opponent, and Brock Thumm, redshirt freshman of Watervliet, Michigan, 141-pounds, Jonny Porter, redshirt freshman of Bellevue, 157-pounds, and Caleb Copeland, senior of Bennett, Colorado, 174-pounds, all had decisions over their opponents.

In the dual against Northwestern College, McKinney scored a technical fall against his opponent, and Thumm and Helmick each scored a major decision. Scoring decisions for the Eagles were Summers and Stuart Hircock, sophomore of Amherst, 197-pounds.

Against Morningside, the Eagles took six of 10 matches. Thumm recorded a technical fall over his opponent, and Helmick and Copeland each scored a major decision. Brandon Kile, freshman of Hastings, 125-pounds, Summers and Porter each scored decisions over their opponents.

Shade Rodenburg, freshman of Kent City, Michigan, 184-pounds, who made the trip to Sioux Falls and competed in the Northwestern dual only, tore an MCL this week and is attempting to compete regardless of the injury.

Jacob Anderson, junior of Central City, will not be competing the rest of the season due to an injured shoulder that requires surgery.

The next wrestling action for the Eagles will be against York College and University of Nebraska- Kearney in Ogallala on Friday, Dec. 18.
