Men’s basketball on 3-game losing streak

The CSC men’s basketball team dropped two games against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and Black Hills State University. The Eagles lost to the Hardrockers, 73-56, and the Yellow Jackets, 77-75. CSC is now on a three game skid.
The woes from the 3-point line continued for the Eagles as they could only shoot 22.2 percent. All but one of the team’s six made 3-pointers came from Billy Johnson, junior of Cedar Hill, Texas. Johnson finished the game with 21 points, the Eagles only player to score double digits. Sharif Black, sophomore of Detroit, was the second best with seven.
Davante McCallam, senior of Miami, led the Eagles with seven rebounds. He also scored six points and recorded a block.
Jaisean Jackson, sophomore of Denver, led the Hardrockers with 27 points, shooting 10 of 14 from the field. Brian Orr, sophomore of Macomb, Michigan, and Troy Whiteto, junior of Los Angeles, were the only other players to score double digits with 15 and 10, respectively. SDSM made nearly 60 of its shots, including 6 of 7 from long range.
The Hardrockers took their first lead of the game with just over 15 minutes left in the first half, and never looked back. After trailing by eight points at half, the Eagles would go on to lose, 73-56.
Against the Yellow Jackets, CSC improved to shoot nearly 50 percent from the field. The Eagles led for most of the game but a 3-pointer from BHSU with in the final minutes of the game gave the lead to BHSU. In the final minute of the game, the Yellow Jackets sank seven free throws to seal the game.
McCallam, scored 17 points, which led all scorers. Warren Gordon, junior of Indianapolis added 13 and Johnson continued his hot scoring streak, tallying 10 for the Eagles.
Jay Feltson, senior of Saginaw, Michigan, grabbed a team best seven rebounds and added nine points.
The Yellow Jackets shot nearly 45 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free-throw line.
Riley Ryan, senior of Sheridan, Wyoming, was one of four Yellow Jackets to score in double digits with 15 points. Wyatt Krogman, redshirt sophomore of White River, South Dakota, and Patrick Mendes, freshman of Stockholm, Sweden, each scored 13 while Nick Ongarato, senior of Broomfield, Colorado, added 11.
The Eagles, now 5-8, 3-6 in conference play, will continue their action on the road this weekend against RMAC opponents New Mexico Highlands University and Western New Mexico University. Game time for Friday is set for 7 p.m., and 7:30 p.m., Saturday.
