Track team continues indoor success at 2 meets
The Chadron State College track and field team sent athletes to two meets last weekend, the Colorado School of Mines Twilight Meet in Golden; and the Dave Little Alumni Mile Indoor Track and Field Meet in Spearfish, South Dakota. In all, the Eagles had eight winners with Kenzie May, sophomore jumper of Indianola, leading the way winning two events at Black Hills State University.
May won the triple jump with a leap of 35 feet, 10 inches and the high jump clearing 5-3.
“She looks smooth,” Head Track and Field Coach Brad Gamble said. “And has shown improvement from a season ago.”
Angelique Urenda, junior of Pueblo, Colorado, won the high jump at Colorado Mines clearing 5-3 as well. Stachia Reuwsaat, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, won the long jump with a distance of 19-11 3/4.
Other place individual winners at Black Hills State for the CSC women were Tiffany Thomas, senior of Kingston, Jamaica, in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.02 seconds and Nicky Banzhaf, junior of Chadron, in the 5,000 with a time of 18:42.92.
The 4×400 relay team also took first running a time of 4:07.95, which consisted of Thomas; Sami Schmit, senior of Cody; Nikki Glasson, senior of Wheatland, Wyoming; and Sierra Martinez, freshman of Aztec, New Mexico.
The only male winners at Black Hills State were Skylar Hoopes, senior of Lusk, Wyoming, and the 4×400 relay team. Hoopes won the pole vault clearing 15-3 1/2. Hoopes broke his own indoor record in the pole vault earlier this season at Black Hills State clearing 15-11.
The men’s 4×400 relay team won the race by over six seconds with a time of 3:26.01. The team consisted of Martin Moriel, sophomore of Phoenix; Austin Fajfer, redshirt freshman of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; Lane Higgins, sophomore of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and Cory Salitrik, freshman of Rock Springs, Wyoming.
On the men’s side at Colorado Mines, the throwers had another strong weekend. David Aldridge, sophomore of Omaha, won the shot put on Friday with a toss of 49-1 1/4 inches. Blake Jacobs, redshirt freshman of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, won the weight throw tossing 53-8 1/2.
The Eagles are home this weekend, hosting the annual Don Holst Twilight Meet at 2 p.m., Friday.
