Senate allocates over $10K
Senate allocated $10,400 during Monday’s meeting. At the beginning of the meeting, Student Senate had $64,440.50 in unallocated funds.
Senate allocated no more than $2,700 for CAB to host zorb racing and bubble soccer. Zorb racing is people in giant inflatable hamster balls racing and bubble soccer is a game of soccer with people in giant inflatable hamster balls. These events are on Feb. 20.
No more than $6,000 was allocated for water bottle filling stations. The stations will be placed in Andrews Hall, Kent Hall, Brooks Hall, and one more building that isn’t decided yet.
No more than $1,500 was allocated to Blue Key for a dodgeball tournament, brain bowl, and ivy day.
No more than $200 was allocated for recycling bins and liners. Thirteen-gallon recycling bins at Ace Hardware are $16.99 each and come in increments of six. The senators decided to get either 18 or 24. The bins will be placed on the main level of each dorm building, one in Eagle Ridge, two in the Student Center, one in the Rita King Library, two in Burkhiser, two in Old Admin, one in the Mari Sandoz Center, one in Crites Hall, and one in each of the other academic buildings. Senator of E.H.P.C.P.S.W. Tate Jensen contacted Chadron alumni David and Ashley (Kitt) Spahn. The Spahns said they would donate $250 to help with recycling.
Hurley said the Ride the Bus program’s prices vary because a computer system generates them. Hurley will be sending campus emails to see the students’ opinions.
The Mari Sandoz Center Museum Director Sarah Polak will ask for an allocation of no more than $5,275 next week for an Alice in Wonderland themed rave. The rave, which will be the second back to school dance the Mari Sandoz Center has hosted, will be on Friday during the first week of school in the fall 2016 semester.
The following is the breakdown of costs for the rave: $75 to dress the muses, $30 for decorations for the Thomas Jefferson statue, $450 for three psychedelic Alice mushroom columns, $80 for a psychedelic Alice 3-D tea cup photo op, $1,000 for LED multi-color chasing rope lights with accessories, $175 for blacklight flexible ribbon 12-volt LED strip – 5 meters, $500 for a disc jockey, $800 for printing and posters, $700 for prizes for costumes, $600 for refreshments from Dining Services, $600 for security, $180 for security shirts, and $85 for UV blacklight reactive blue invisible ink club kit.
Polak said she wants to have security at the dance so there are no issues with alcohol and so nobody tries to break into the museum. One concerns from senators is maximum occupancy of the room used for the rave; Polak said she will look into the issue. Polak said one of the benefits of using the Mari Sandoz Center for the rave is it increases the amount of people who are aware of where the building is located. An open forum is from 5-6 p.m. today.

Senate approved pitch club and art guild to be recognized as clubs in CAB.
The campus improvement committee plans to provide changing curtains in Kent Hall bathrooms this summer.
The campus improvement committee plans to get vending machines in laundry rooms with laundry soaps, dryer sheets, condoms, and other items. They also plan to put vending machines in Miller Hall, Old Admin, Crites Hall, Edna Hall, and Burkhiser with snack food.
Senate granted the campus improvement committee power to act on developing a food pantry on campus.
Open forums for the constitutional committee will be from 3-4 p.m. every other Thursday starting Feb. 18. Every change to the constitution goes on a ballot separately for the students to vote on.
Student Senate President Katrina Hurley called executive session to talk about the student trustee position.
Graduate Assistant of Student Leadership Alyssa Bauer said Tom Krieglstein, a career-planning speaker, will present at CSC Tuesday, April 19.
Hurley said she is creating a new senator packet for senators that are voted into Senate.
