Spring Daze committee to ask for $37k

Monday, Student Senate will be asking for an allocation of  $37,000 for a festival event, Spring Daze, April 28-30. Student Senate President Katrina Hurley said that this allocation will leave enough money in the account for the events planned the rest of the year.

Open forums for the allocation are scheduled for 4-5 p.m. today and 3-4 p.m. Monday.

Last night at a forum no students showed up except members of the Spring Daze planning board.

The annual Nearly Naked Mile is on April 28 and the Spring Daze committee will be handing out “swag” at the event and the NNM shirts will feature the Spring Daze logo.

The Party at the Pavilion, which was originally planned for last semester but was canceled to unexpected weather problems, will be at the Rangeland Center from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. April 29.

The big Spring Daze event will be on April 30 where six bands and a multitude of booths and activities will be featured.

Spring Daze used to be a big event on campus and Senate is trying to bring the tradition back so students will have an interest in CSC because there are fun events happening on campus.

Senate plans to earn about 60 percent of the funds back in sponsorships, sales, and selling swag items to the public. Swag items include T-shirts, tank tops, bro-tanks, sunglasses, hats, and rubber bracelets and will be free to students. Students will be asked to select either a T-shirt or tank top and one of the other items.

Other than in Chadron, Spring Daze will be advertised in Scottsbluff, Alliance, Hemingford, Rushville, Crawford, and Rapid City, South Dakota. They are advertising in the surrounding areas because they want to draw in more of the general public.

The budget for activities is: $350 for the dunk tank, $750 for bubble soccer, $500 for sumo suits, and $1,000 for the barbeque for a total of $2,600.
