The Return of Kings bears a bad message

Society today is becoming more and more progressive in granting people equal rights and respect, however, a group called The Return of Kings has recently begun pushing ideals of ‘neomasculinity.’ This group is led by Roosh Valizadeh and on Feb. 16, he wrote an article on his blog titled “How to Stop Rape,” which he has since declared to be satire.

In this blog entry he introduces the notion of making rape legal on private property. He says that women should be held responsible for their actions, rather than trust they won’t be raped; and that if rape were legal on private property, women wouldn’t enter a man’s apartment without sex being an expectation. His blog, outside of this supposedly satirical article, has numerous entries that continue to degrade and dehumanize women. One excerpt from an entry titled “Women Must Have Their Behavior and Decisions Controlled By Men” states, “After a long period in society of women having unlimited personal freedom…they have shown to consistently fail in making the right decisions that prevent their own harm and the harm of others. Systems must now be put in place where a woman’s behavior is monitored and her decisions subject to approval of a male relative or guardian who understands what’s in her best interests better than she does herself.”

His words continue to perpetuate indecent standards toward women and members of our society, such as the homosexual community. This heterosexual male only organization had plans to meet on Feb. 6, and had to cancel their meet up due to the dangers posed to the members, which is ironic considering the blatant statements they make against women are dangerous in and of themselves.

They did meet in small private groups where they could further their message of hate without the interference of protestors. His group has supporters and followers from around the globe who conform to Valizadeh’s belief that women are lesser and inferior. While we have made leaps in treatment toward each other as a whole, the existence of this group proves that we have a long way to go. In 2016, this sort of thinking should be obsolete because we are all equal.
