Constituents express concern about ‘Alice in Wonderland’ rave

Mari Sandoz Center Museum Director Sarah Polak said the Sandoz Center will be hosting a Sandoz Center dance instead of an Alice in Wonderland rave. There were concerns about an Alice in Wonderland themed rave.

“What disappoints me is that people take something really beautiful and turn it into something ugly,” Polak said, through tears.

Senators tabled this discussion and will vote on an allocation at next week’s meeting.  Polak said she will meet with clubs to see if they will still financially assist the Sandoz Center for this dance.

Senate has $17,790.50 in unallocated funds not including this semester’s student activity fees.

Senate postponed the Ride the Bus Program indefinitely because if a certain amount of students didn’t sign up, Senate had to pay the dividend.

Johnathan Sayaloune was voted in as an at large senator. There are two positions open—at large and E.H.P.C.P.S.W.—on Senate after the resignation of Senator of Andrews Hall Mieshia Coleman. Coleman said she resigned because she didn’t have time for Senate.

Kent Hall Senator Samantha Merrill said her constituents have expressed concerns regarding parking passes being stolen. She suggested getting parking passes that can be placed inside vehicles.

Senator of E.H.P.C.P.S.W. Tate Jensen said he is setting up a time to meet with Keep Chadron Beautiful to talk about getting more recycling on campus.

Senator At Large Stephanie Alfred said the Campus Improvement Committee is drafting its bylaws and will bring them to next week’s meeting.

Alfred said the Campus Improvement Committee wants to cooperate with Northwest Communication Action Partnership to get community backing for the food pantry the committee is starting.

Career and Academic Planning Services Director Deena Kennell reminded senators that they should only call to question when there is no more productive or lively conversation.

Student Senate President Katrina Hurley said Vice President and Finance and Administration Dale Grant is looking to approve water bottle filling stations and will contact Senate when he knows where they can be installed.

Clubs can sign up for booths during Spring Daze on April 30 in the Ponderosa Room from 4-6 p.m. today.
