Eagle’s softball teams split Colorado games

After traveling to Grand Junction, Colorado, to play two conference teams, the Eagles split the four-game weekend, beating Colorado Christian University, Lakewood, twice but losing two to Colorado Mesa University. CSC is now 11-7-1, 6-2 in the RMAC.

On Friday, the Eagles defeated CCU in the first game 8-3. Cierra Cosslett, graduate of Grand Junction, Colorado, picked up her fifth win of the season, only giving up seven hits and three runs. Bekka Prokaski, junior of Broomfield, Colorado, hit 2 of 3 with one run scored. Lindsey Karlin, junior of Berthoud, Colorado, was perfect on two attempts, scoring two runs and also earning an RBI. Courtney Lecher, junior of Fort Collins, Colorado, hit .500, adding two RBIs and a run scored.

Against the Mavericks in the second game of the day, Tayler Hall, senior of Windsor, Colorado, suffered her first pitching loss of the season, giving up nine hits and five runs. The Eagles managed eight hits of their own but stranded seven runners on base, only scoring two runs. Prokaski hit a perfect 3 of 3. Lecher and Rebekah Anthony, senior of Monument, Colorado, batted in the two runs for the Eagles.

Saturday, CSC dropped the first game 9-5 to CMU. The Mavericks were able to capitalize on 12 hits, and six team RBIs. The Eagles earned nine hits, but left eight runners on base. Zoe Humphries, junior of Arvada, Colorado, batted 2 of 4, while Anthony earned one hit on two attempts with two walks.

CSC was able to salvage the weekend, picking up another win against CCU, 6-2. Hall earned her sixth win of the season, pitching all 10 innings, giving up eight hits, but struck out 12 batters. Katelyn Kruger, hit 3 of 5, good for one run scored and an RBI. Aspen Eubanks, sophomore of Broomfield, Colorado, hit .750, adding an RBI and a run scored. Humphries picked up her second homerun of the season, a solo shot in the first inning.

The Eagles will host their first home games of the season this weekend against Western New Mexico University. The Mustangs are 10-13, 6-2 in conference play. The teams will play four times, twice on Saturday, and then again on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon Saturday, and 11 a.m. Sunday.
