Senate offers support to change Board Policy 3400

Senate President Katrina Hurley and Student Trustee Mikayla Gallagher said the Trustees are looking for support from Senate to possibly change Board Policy 3400 concerning the Board of Trustees scholarships. They are trying to change it so students who receive the scholarships can use their tuition waiver for summer classes or more than 16 credit hours a semester. Students would be able to use it for 128 total credit hours. Senators will vote on this at the next meeting.

Senate has $21,869.19 in unallocated funds.

Petitions for senatorial positions including at large, school, and residence hall senators; and executive board positions are due March 23. In order to become senate vice president, the student must have spent at least half a term on Senate and one full term for president.

Hurley appointed Evan Smith as a senator at large.

Bauerkempers and Maverick signed sponsorships with Senate for Spring Daze.

Senate has a petition that students can sign for the library to be opened on Saturdays.

Andrews and E.H.P.C.P.S.W. senator positions are open.

Hurley said that clubs should bring an itemized budget to the Senate for funding for Spring Daze booths. This funding is in the original proposed budget for Spring Daze.

Senate is looking for a committee to take over the organization for the Party at the Pavilion because Rangeland Facility and B.E.A.M.S.S Coordinator Laure Sinn can’t anymore.

Senator At Large Tate Jensen said that David and Ashley (Kitt) Spahn, the alumni that donated money for recycling bins, said they would match the price that Senate allocates to further the recycling program on campus.
Jensen also said that events on campus should be advertised more so students know what is happening on campus.

Vice Chair of Finance Molly O’Connell said club budget packets are due to [email protected] and Sakai March 4.

O’Connell will ask for an allocation for free movie and free bowling nights at the next Senate meeting.

Senate approved a new sorority, Alpha Sigma Zeta, as a club. CAB will vote on approving this sorority as a club Tuesday.  

The Campus Improvement Committee presented a rough draft of their bylaws. They are taking suggestions from senators and executive board members and the bylaws will be voted on at the next Senate meeting.

There will be a constitutional change open forum in the Senate office from 4-5 p.m. Thursday.

There is a teacher interview day Friday in the Student Center. This will be similar to a career fair for those in the teaching profession.

There will be a career fair in the Student Center March 16.

Navy Seals will be coming to campus in April to give leadership seminars that are open to all students. Western Community Health Resources is paying for this but there are costs that aren’t covered. Internships and Career Services Director Deena Kennell asked students to fund for half of the costs that need to be covered. Kennell will bring more information to the next meeting and senators will vote on it then.

Hurley read an email from Mari Sandoz Center Museum Director Sarah Polak that said at this time, they are not moving forward with their back to school dance so Senate will no longer be funding it.

Senators voted to grant Hurley and Vice President of Finance Gavan Archibald the power to change the names on The Bank of the West Senate bank account.

Senate is looking for ideas for an event on Scholastic Day and after the Big Event to give students something to do other than drink alcohol.

Senate will not meet next week because of Midterm Break but will resume their regularly scheduled meetings March 14.
