Golf team places 5th out of 7 teams at Arkansas tourney
The Chadron State golf team took to Arkansas to compete at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions Classic Monday and Tuesday, placing fifth out of seven teams in competition.
CSC’s Emma Harris, senior of Wahoo, shot a first-round 80, which tied the season low-round score previously held by Sam Rahmig, freshman of Gering, and Kelli Haynes, sophomore of Whitney.
Chadron’s fifth place finish landed them ahead of Northwestern Oklahoma State, Alva, and Oklahoma Wesleyan, Bartlesville, with a score of 350-345-695 for the team.
Harris tied for 14th out of 38 competitors, with a score of 80-84-164 to lead the Eagles. Rahmig and Schuyler Wetzel, senior of Hot Springs, South Dakota, tied for 21st with scores of 88-81-169 and 86-83-169, respectively.
“I feel pretty confident with my game,” Wetzel said. “I am really just going to focus on my short game these next few days.”
Mikayla Gallagher (96-97-193), sophomore of Lead, South Dakota, and Haynes (97-97-194) both showed consistent efforts for the Eagles to round out their top five.
Karson Langley, sophomore of Sidney, participated as a non-scoring individual finishing with a score of 107-90-197,
Harris gave her best two-round effort of the season thus far with 164, and Rahmig’s 169 equaled her own season low, set in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Oct. 4, 2015.
The Eagles will be back on campus for two days before heading to Arizona for the RMAC Championships, beginning April 18 at Coldwater G.C. in Avondale, Arizona.
“Overall, I think we need to work on having more consistency in our games and try to eliminate mental errors,” Wetzel said. “Our goal for the RMAC Championships is to have everybody in the eighties or better.”
