Senate amends bylaws to release numbers
At the last official meeting of the semester, Senators amended the Election Procedure A-29 bylaw that used to read “No candidates’ names will be mentioned in the vote-count narrative.” The bylaw now reads “All candidate names and their corresponding vote count shall be included in the vote-count narrative.” This amendment takes effect immediately so it will be in effect for elections in the fall 2016 semester.
Twelve senators and the new executive board were sworn into office. Two of these senators are new to Senate. In addition to the new executive board members that were already elected, former Kent Hall Senator Samantha Merrill was elected to the secretary position and former Brooks Hall Senator Curtis Stevens was elected to the vice president of finance position.
Former Chief Justice Coy Clark resigned from the justice position to take on the Student Trustee position.
“I am grateful for the opportunities and the experiences that the Chief Justice position has been able to offer me,” Clark said. “But, I am ready to move forward and help better our state college system as the student trustee.”
Chief Justice applications will be sent out at Senate’s first meeting next semester.
Senate allocated no more than $8,000 for the Week of Welcome out of next year’s funds. Senate hosted a forum for theme and event ideas for the Week of Welcome. Ideas include laser tag, ice cream social, chalk the walk, rubber check races, and getting clubs involved.
Clark will attend the NSCS Board meeting in Lincoln next Tuesday. If students have any concerns for him to bring up at the meeting, they should email him.
Senate approved Collegiate Farm Bureau club to be a CAB affiliated club. With the nine new clubs from this school year, there are 51 active clubs and eight inactive clubs on campus.
Librarian Shawn Hartman who works with Outreach Services needed the funding for the library lounge renovations this school year but Senate couldn’t allocate it for next school year so the request for funds was cancelled.
Senate has $4,192.87 in unallocated funds.
Admissions Representatives Sarah Smith and Christina Pajeda said there will be an information fair at New Student Orientation from noon-2 p.m. Friday, August 19. The fair is open to clubs, academic departments, and any group that wants to be represented at NSO. For more information, contact Smith at [email protected].
