CSC hires 2 new coaches

This summer brought new changes to the CSC athletic program. Two new head coaches were hired, as well as an associate athletic director, and the sports information director.

Janet Raymer, former coaching assistant for the women’s basketball team, was announced as the head coach for the program July 5. She was CSC’s coaching assistant for two years under former head coach Tim Connealy.

Raymer is also a CSC alumni, graduating in 2003, played two seasons for the Eagles, leading the team in steals and assists. She said she is excited to be a new part of the women’s basketball program and redirect where the team is headed.

“We have to build a program where we hold each other accountable,” Raymer said. “It is all going to be based off of hard work and accountability.”

Raymer has been busy all summer signing new recruits. So far, two incoming freshman from Thedford; two transfer students from Northwest Kansas Technical College, Goodland; one transfer from Western Nebraska Community College, Scottsbluff; and one from McCook Community College, McCook.

“I want them to come in right away and find their role in the team,” she said. “Whether it be in a starting position or working really hard in practice. I don’t expect all of them to be super stars but I expect all of them to work hard.”

Raymer has yet to announce a coaching assistant.

Filling the vacancy of head women’s golf coach is another familiar face at CSC, John Ritzen. The announcement was made Aug. 10.

Ritzen is also a graduate of CSC in 2010 is an instructor for the CSC health, physical education, and recreation department. He also has served as a volunteer assistant for the track and field team, helping with jumping events.

Filling a new position of associate athletic director is Chris Green. Athletic Director Joel Smith made the announcement Tuesday. Green is the former director of student activities and recreation, and will be in charge game management, promotional activities. He will also be in charge of compliance with NCAA and RMAC rules and guidelines.

Green graduated from CSC in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in recreation. He has been the coordinator of the Nelson Physical Activities Center from September 2011 to September 2015.

Kaleb Center is the official sports information director at CSC. Center served as the interim for the majority of the 2015-2016 year.
