CSC golfers finish 11

The Eagles, led by sophomore Sam Rahmig, of Gering, finished just one spot out of the top 10 at the Sam Proal Farmers Insurance Invitational in Pueblo, Colorado. CSC finished the first round in 12th.
“Everyone played about where I expected them to be,” Ritzen said. “From top to bottom we still need to get better as a team.”
There were 14 teams at the invite. West Texas A&M, Canyon, took the top spot with a two-day total of 611 strokes. CSC’s team total was 736. A&M’s Mattye Mason, junior of San Marcos, Texas, took the individual title, with a score of 146, five strokes better than second place.
Rahmig finished in a tie for 48th place with a two-round total of 175. She improved on a first-day 89, shooting three strokes less on day two.
The lone freshman for CSC, Sydney Owen, of Rapid City, South Dakota, tied with Rahmig on day one, but struggled in the second round, shooting a 95 for a total of 184, good for 59th place. Karson Langley, junior of Sidney, finished one place behind Owen, with a total of 185.
“Karson (Langley) was a good surprise,” Ritzen said. “It was a good improvement for her. If she keeps improving, she will be a contributor.”
There were 79 players at the invite.
The next tournament for CSC is the RMAC No. 1 Tournament Monday and Tuesday, in Denver.
