The team went 9-17 overall in the 2015 season and 8-10 in RMAC and 3-8 in road games.
The Eagles beat PLNU in their second game of the tournament after losing to Saginaw Valley State University, University Center, Michigan, Friday, each in three sets. The Eagles also lost to Western New Mexico University, Silver City, in four sets and California Baptist University, Riverside, in three sets Saturday.
Madison Webb, sophomore setter of Loveland, Colorado, was named to the All-Tournament Team after posting 114 assists and 6 kills. Last season Webb totaled 884 assists. She marked 23 against Saginaw, 28 against PLNU, 46 against WNMU, and 16 against Cal. Baptist.
“Madison is a great player and leader,” Head Coach Riann Mullis said. “Some of the struggles most 5-foot-5 setters have, she doesn’t have so that award (All-Tournament Team) was well deserved.”
The team totaled 141 kills in four games and Rudy Leasau, senior of LaMesa, California, led the team with 45. She led the team in every match: 9 against Saginaw, 12 against PLNU, 17 against WNMU, and 7 against Cal. Baptist.
Kenzie Chrisman, sophomore of Sterling, Colorado, led the team with blocks, earning 11 of the team’s 17. She marked 4 against Saginaw, 3 against PLNU, 2 against WNMU, and 2 against Cal. Baptist.
“This weekend we got a chance to look at ourselves and see our struggles, so we are focusing on those at practice,” Mullis said.
“We are focusing on scoring on offense and moving the volleyball.”
Friday and Saturday, the Eagles will travel to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to compete at the Sanford Pentagon Tournament. CSC will face two ranked teams during the tournament.
Augustana University, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is ranked No. 22 on the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll. The Eagles will compete against Augustana at 9 a.m. Friday and at 11:30 a.m. Saturday. The Vikings are 4-0 so far this season.
CSC will play No. 13 ranked Winona State University at 3:30 p.m. Friday. Winona State is 5-0 so far this season.
The fourth game of the tournament will be played against the University of Southern Indiana at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“Every tournament will have its challenges, but I’m feeling good,” Mullis said. “We’ve had productive practices this week. We just have to focus on ourselves and it won’t matter who our opponent is.”
