Men’s rodeo team finishes 2nd in Sheridan
The Chadron State College rodeo teams traveled to Sheridan, Wyoming, this weekend to compete in the second Central Rocky Mountain Conference rodeo on the fall schedule. The men’s team finished the rodeo second overall, just behind Sheridan College, Sheridan, Wyoming.
Chasen Cole, junior of Hermosa, South Dakota, and Cordale Martin, junior of Panhandle, Texas, were the only two cowboys to ride both of their bulls in Sheridan. Cole won the event with a score of 66 points and second place in the long go-round and 74 in the short-go. Martin was close behind with a score of 62 in the long round for third place and 72 in the championship round to take second overall.
Prestyn Novak, junior of Newell, South Dakota, won the long round in the tie-down roping with a run of 10.4 seconds and tied for first in the short-go with a 10.2 run to put him first in the average.
Dakota Rice, senior of Kellogg, Idaho, scored a 54 on his bull in the long round which put him fourth in the averages.
The other cowboys in the top 10 of the first go-round for the Chadron State men’s team were Colin Dibbern, sophomore of Riverdale, in the saddle bronc riding; Lance Neuerburg, junior of Gill, Colorado, in tie-down roping; and Cole Retchless, freshman of Bridgeport, in team roping.
“In the bronc riding, my performance wasn’t my best,” Dibbern said. “But I was still able to pick out a positive thing from Sheridan which was two strong mark-outs. I’m going to focus on the positives of my rides from Sheridan, come out riding like I know in Lamar, and let the rest fall into place.”
Dibbern and Neuerburg both finished fourth in their event, while Retchless finished 10th. However, none of them were able to score in the championship round.
The next rodeo in the Central Rocky Mountain Region will be at Lamar Community College, Lamar, Colorado, this weekend.
