Golfers finish nearly last at Bellevue

The Chadron State women’s golf team finished sixth of seven teams at the 54-hole Bellevue Invitational at Platteview Golf Club, Bellevue. Regular season tournaments for CSC golfers are typically 36 holes.
Golfers shot two rounds on Monday and a third Tuesday. Despite rain delays, three CSC golfers marked season low scores in the third round. Sam Rahmig, sophomore of Gering, shot 85-92-84 for a final score of 261 strokes good for 17th place out of 34 competitors; freshman Sydney Owen, freshman of Rapid City, South Dakota, finished in 18th place, shooting 96-86-83 for a total of 265; and Karson Langely, junior of Sidney, shooting 90-99-86 for a total of 275. Rahmig, Owen, and Langley put up rounds in the 80s for the first time this season.
“The more we play, the more consistent we become,” CSC Head Golf Coach John Ritzen said. “We are definitely improving, but there is still room for even more improvement.”
Iowa Western Community College’s Cassidy Evreniadis, freshman of Adelaide, South Australia, claimed the individual title shooting 78-80-71 for a final score of 229.
The CSC team went 370-366-344 for a three-round score of 1,080 earning sixth place out of seven teams. The final round was an improvement on the team’s 18-hole season best by 16 strokes.
Bellevue University, Bellevue, won the team title shooting a 953.
The Eagle golfers will conclude their fall schedule with the RMAC No. 2 tournament in Alamosa, Colorado, Monday and Tuesday.
Ritzen said the golfers are working to reduce mental errors in order to perform at their best.
“The girls know what they are capable of shooting,” Ritzen said. “We are looking to decrease our scores, and if we can shoot under our average, we can’t be disappointed.”
