5 alumni receive awards at Homecoming luncheon

The CSC Alumni Office distributed five awards and celebrated the graduating classes of 1965-66 at the 2016 Homecoming Luncheon Saturday in the Student Center Ballroom. Three Distinguished Young Alumni Awards, one Distinguished Alumni award, and a Family Tree Award were distributed, according to Director of Development and Alumni Karen Pope. Around 65 people attended, including friends and relatives of those being honored and representatives from the college.

Travis O’Gorman, who graduated in 1999, is now a judge for Nebraska’s 12th Judicial District, and lives in Alliance. Trevor Schmidt, of Durham, North Carolina, graduated in 2003 and is now a trademark and technology lawyer at Hutchison PLLC. Corey Staab, of Spring, Texas, is now the vice president of procurement and administration for Kinder Morgan, a company that operates natural gas and refined petroleum product pipelines. Keanna Leonard, who graduated in 1991 with a degree in biology, was presented the 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award. She now works as the director of education for the Audubon’s Rowe Sanctuary and lives in Grand Island.
The 2016 Family Tree Award, given in honor of a family that has had at least three generations attend CSC, was awarded to brothers Joe and Larry Lytle, of Rapid City, South Dakota. Their families, including members of the other two generations that followed them, were also recognized.
The classes of 1965-66 were honored with special recognition at the Homecoming luncheon. The class of 1966 celebrated its Golden Era anniversary, 50 years since its graduation. Pope presented a brief slideshow presentation of living conditions in 1965-66, describing CSC campus life and life for the country in general.
