CSC cowboys dominate CWC rodeo

The CSC cowboys made an impressive show this weekend at the Central Wyoming College rodeo in Riverton. The men earned enough points to claim the men’s team title and land them second overall in the Central Rocky Mountain Region.
The cowboys were led by men’s all-around winner Prestyn Novak, junior of Newell, South Dakota, who won tie down roping with a time of 21.9 seconds, and placed fifth in steer wrestling with a time of 14.0.
Eight other CSC team members also placed among the top six in their events to earn team points.
“The men’s team had a great performance with several of our leaders stepping up—Prestyn Novak and Lane Day. There were also some break through on the rough stock side for some of the guys that haven’t had the best luck this fall season,” Nate McFadden, graduate assistant of Elsmere said.
The CSC men dominated both bull riding and saddle bronc riding earning three of the top six places in each event.
Cordale Martin, senior of Panhandle, Texas, finished third overall in bull riding with a score of 72 points. Juniors Ethan Lesiak, of Clarks, and Chasen Cole of Hermosa, South Dakota, finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Sophomore Colin Dibbern, of Riverdale, took second in saddle bronc riding with teammates Jed Rice, senior of Kellogg, Idaho, and Cody Trump, junior of Merriman, placing third and fifth, respectively.
Lane Day, graduate student of Bartlett, also earned points by finishing third in tie down roping, with a time of 22.8.
Senior Jordan Tierney of Oral, South Dakota, was the only CSC woman to reach the championship go-round Sunday. She placed third in goat tying in 8.1 and 8.3.
“I have been practicing really hard at my goat tying this semester and I’m grateful that this weekend everything came together for me,” said Tierney. “I look forward to the last fall rodeo this weekend in Cheyenne and working hard throughout the winter to get ready for the spring rodeos. I think we have such a great group of girls this year and big things are coming for us.”
McFadden commented on the women’s performance as well.
“Jordan Tierney led the girls with a strong performance in the goat tying,” said McFadden. “Some of the other girls also performed well but came up just short of making it back to the top 10. Overall I was very impressed with how well the team preformed and can’t wait to see how well they compete in Cheyenne.”
