Students rally to kickoff Homecoming week
Homecoming festivities kicked off Oct. 4 with a pep rally in Armstrong Gymnasium. The event was originally planned to be outside, but a poor weather forecast prompted a move inside.
As the CSC band played multiple arrangements to set the pep rally atmosphere. The event began with the football and cross country teams parading in from the side entrance. The volleyball team was announced, but had already left for its game against Wayne State College.
After the teams found seats in the crowded gymnasium, Master of Ceremony, Logan Douglas, 19, sophomore of Oshkosh, handed the microphone over to CSC President Randy Rhine.
Rhine thanked everyone for coming and hoped to see everyone at all of the upcoming events.
The captains of the football and cross country teams spoke after Rhine.
Darrien Oliver, senior of San Diego, spoke for the football team, while Alejandro Garcia, a graduate student of Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, and Margaret Vinton, senior of North Platte, spoke for the cross country teams.
The captains’ speeches were followed by performances from the dance and cheer teams.
Due to the event being inside, new games and events had to be made to keep the crowd entertained. A scheduled bonfire was not possible.
Student names were drawn from a bucket to find participants for each event. The games ranged from sack races to egg tosses. The winners of each event earned prizes.
The event, originally scheduled from 6:30-8 p.m., ended by 7:10 p.m.
“I thought it went well, all things considered, with being inside due to weather and having to improvise games since we couldn’t have a fire,” Douglas said. “It was nice having students participate in the games and have a good friendly competition.”
