Society controls the future, not the president

To say that this campaign has been a rough one would be an understatement. It’s been grueling, drawn out, and tiresome. But, here we are, we made it. By this time a president will have been announced and we will know who the next leader of our country will be.
While this has been such a trying time, and I believe there to be more trials in the future, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate how politically involved our community has been.
I fear the one thing that cripples us as a society is our trepidation in democratic participation, but so many people have been outspoken and encouraged voting, even if it’s for the opposite party. For the most part, I’ve seen a ton of students on campus engage in political conversations, without there being indications of violence or hostility.
Political affiliation is a topic that is broached with caution, as people tend to feel strongly about the way they feel the nation should be run, but I think the most important task we have now is to come together and really hammer out issues we face as a country, and as a member of the world community.
Whoever is pronounced president has the capacity to flex influence…but we as the American citizens control our own actions and what it is we want to enforce. I cannot express enough my hope for the future, and if our community is just a small taste of the future, then I see bright things on the horizon.
So, whether your candidate won or lost, keep your head up.
Let’s maintain momentum as a society and strive to be a catalyst for change in the future.
