‘The Blindside’ star speaks about bullying
“The Blindside” star Quinton Aaron spoke to nearly 200 students Monday night in the Chicoine Center on the topic of bullying. Aaron played the role of Michael Oher in the award-winning movie “The Blindside.”
Aaron, speaking for his own foundation, The Quinton Aaron Foundation, said he started speaking against bullying for multiple reasons.
“It’s sad to hear all the statistics about bullying and hear how many kids commit suicide every year after being picked on and not feeling wanted,” he said.

Being a victim of bullying himself as a kid, Aaron wanted to share his story how he got through the tough times.
“Telling is the best thing you can do against bullying,” Aaron said. “If I said that I was going to tell my mom or a teacher and actually did it, everyone would stop bullying cause they didn’t want to get in trouble.”
Aaron first spoke for 30 minutes telling his story about bullying and how he overcame it, and then he opened up the floor for questions.
Many individuals attending the event had questions about bullying and about the movie.
While answering questions, Aaron made sure to tell more of his life story and tried to motivate students.
“No matter who is in office of the president, everything is going to work out for us,” he said. “The world isn’t going to end because they’re not the reason we’re here on this earth.”
The loudest applause of the night came after Aaron was asked to sing. Singing “Amazing Grace,” Aaron used high pitches to shock the crowd with his talent.
“If you want to be successful you need to never stop believing in yourself. Whatever you want to do, tell yourself you can do it. If you work hard, nothing is impossible,” Aaron said.
