Hunting season began between the hunters and the hunted of the animal kingdom, including wascally wabbits.
The animals, headed by Head Coach Brad Gamble, emerged victorious over the hunters, led by Assistant Coach Barrett Browne, in annual intrasquad track by a close game at the Nelson Physical Activities Center, Friday.
The animals managed to take the lead on the first part. The critters of the wild managed to pull off first place runners in most running relays like the 80 meter relay and the 220 meter relay.
While winning in a few games, the hunters put on a show and few hunters taking first place in events like shot put and weight throw.
However, during the triple jump, Kim Rendon, sophomore of Pearsall, Texas, suffered a twisted ankle injury, when she jumped at the edge of the sand pit in a hard landing. She took no participation in any of the events for the remainder of the meet.
In the end, it all became tied between the hunters and the hunted, leading to the coaches’ challenge. The challenge chosen by the participants to declare the winner was long jump. Browne took the jump first with Gamble jumping farther than Browne’s distance, leading the animals to victory over the hunters.
Overall, Gamble said that the team was young, trained hard, and performed really well.
“If we do something over break, we’ll be good to go,” Gamble said.
The CSC track and field will begin their indoor season on Dec. 2 at Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota.
