Strumming students entertain audience
Chadron State College students performed acoustic and electric guitar pieces at a guitar student showcase program Wednesday in the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center Chicoine Atrium.
Nine students performed pieces from a variety of different genres, completing their lessons with teacher and program director Mckay Tebbs for the semester. Each student performed one song on acoustic guitars. Three students also performed a second song on electric guitars.
Some students who participated were majoring or minoring in guitar, while others studied guitar playing as a hobby. One performer, Anna Fischer, 22, senior of Maywood, played the “Star Wars” main theme by John Williams on an acoustic guitar after one semester of private lessons with Tebbs. Fischer had practiced her piece since midterm in preparation for the program.
“I’ve always wanted to play it (guitar) because I love country music,” Fischer said. “It’s been a fun class.”
The other students included Alex Rawlings, 22, junior of Kimball; Clinton Albertus, 23, junior of Curaçao; Matt Heng-Martin, 20, freshman of Kimball; Jazalyne Lussetto, 18, freshman of Bridgeport; Xander Casillas, 21, junior of Phoenix; Eli Garza, 22, sophomore of McCallen, Texas; Leslie Hopton, 19, sophomore of Philadelphia; and Jake Voorhis, 20, junior of Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Albertus, Rawlings, and Voorhis each played a piece in the electric guitar portion of the program. Around 15 people attended the event.
