Senate allocates $700 for Scholastic Day, approves timeline
Student Senate approved a $700 allocation, bylaw revisions, and a timeline for action on Master Academic Plan initiatives at Monday night’s meeting.
School of BEAMSS Rangeland Program Coordinator Laure Sinn asked for a $700 allocation on behalf of the Scholastic Day Committee. The money will be used to bring in an interactive trailer full of games, including Xbox, Wii, and giant Jenga, as entertainment for the high school students visiting campus that day. Sinn expressed the importance of creating a fun campus atmosphere for the potential students.
“We’d like to present a really, really neat, cool campus and say, ‘look what’s going on,’” Sinn said.
Senate approved the allocation. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help with Scholastic Day may contact Sinn at 308-432-6455, or by email at [email protected].
The Student Health and Well-Being Committee made minor wording and numbering adjustments to its bylaws, which the senators approved.
Senate approved the timeline for MAP initiatives it is working on this semester, to send to administration. It was not voting to approve the budget for these projects at this time.
The first MAP priority was in regards to Student Senate Constitution and Bylaw Revisions. Senate created a committee to review Senate documents and propose changes for ongoing growth and improvement, according to Senate President Katrina Hurley. They approved amendments to the bylaws at the end of last semester.
The next initiative was Wireless Printing. The plan is to bring a program to campus to allow students to print from personal wireless devices, such as laptops. Senate hopes to bring the proposal to a vote on Feb. 6, after confirming costs and hosting open forums.
Next was the Student Health and Well-Being Initiative. Senate created this committee to replace the Student Health 101 emails, after a poor reception from students. The committee’s purpose is to promote positive physical and mental health among CSC students. They are working this semester to plan events and initiatives to be approved for the 2017-18 academic year. They propose this initiative will come to a vote on April 24.
The final MAP priority was the Feminine Hygiene Initiative. The Senate Campus Improvement Committee is working to provide free feminine hygiene products for students in each bathroom across campus. The timeline for this project required amendments.
Lukas Klueber, formerly a Brooks Hall senator, was sworn in as the new Vice President of Finance, replacing Curtis Stevens. Klueber reported the total Senate funds after allocations is $59,156.33.
Vice President Karson Langley reported that Senate donated $484 and a small Christmas tree to the Caring and Sharing Drive from the Christmas tree fundraiser in December.
Chief Justice Sam Merrill reported Sen. Anas Haddadi has resigned from his position. Senate has numerous open positions, including two at-large, two BEAMSS, one EHPCPSW, three liberal arts, Eagle Ridge, Brooks, and Kent. The Bylaw Revision Committee is also looking for a new chair. Hurley is taking applications in the Senate office until 5 p.m. Friday.
Hurley announced that senators need to get library petitions filled by next week or they will drop the project.
