Senate’s Feminine Hygiene Initiative to begin after spring break
Senate President Katrina Hurley announced that the Feminine Hygiene Initiative has been approved and will take effect after spring break at the open forum 5 p.m. Thursday.
Senate will supply a basket of feminine products in the women’s bathrooms on campus, to be refilled once a month. However, Senate is now trying to make all of the lobby bathrooms in the dorms unisex. Therefore, they may need to put the feminine products in all lobby bathrooms. Hurley also brought up putting a basket of condoms in the bathrooms as well.
Hurley also brought a printout with the differences between Guidebook and MobileUp apps. CSC is currently paying $6,000 Guidebook, but has not tapped into all the possible features the app offers. MobileUp offers similar features but costs between $2,500-$5,000, depending on how many of those features you want included.
Hurley brought copies of the Spring Daze budget as well, totaling $37,000. The budget breakdown is: $12,850 for inflatables, $8,000 for a petting zoo, $5,524.28 for freebies (apparel handouts), $800 for a pool party, $2,500 for club booths, $500 for Mr. and Mrs. Spring Daze, $500 for decorations, $500 for booth prizes, $5,000 for a food truck, $20 for wristbands, and $800 for contingency. After spring break, Senate will have a table in the Student Center for campus and community members to sign up to be a Spring Daze volunteer. Hurley said they are also looking for clubs to sign up to run a booth.
The Campus Improvement Committee has been looking into replacing the computer chairs in the Student Center. The chairs they had chosen to buy from Wal-Mart are out of stock, so they are now looking for similar chairs elsewhere.
Anyone running for Senate must turn in a petition to Chief Justice Samantha Merrill or the Senate office by noon March 13. Petitions can be found on the Senate page of the CSC website. All current senators must reapply for next semester.
RLA has asked Senate to help bring Cheryl Brown Henderson to campus to speak for Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2018. Henderson is the daughter of Oliver Brown, the plaintiff in the historic Brown v. Board of Education case of 1954. The cost to hire her is $3,500.
Hurley also asked senators to speak with their constituents about the possible $10,000 allocation to the Chadron Area Aquatics and Wellness Center. Senate will be voting on the matter at their March 13 meeting.
