Senior saddle bronc rider Cody Trump, of Custer, South Dakota, won the event at CSC’s home rodeo last weekend at the Dawes County Fairgrounds.
“It felt really good (to win),” Trump said. “It was one of my goals this year, to start the season off strong and win the home rodeo.”
The CSC men’s team placed third in the standings with 370 points behind Gillette College, Gillette, Wyoming, with 560 and Laramie County Community College, Cheyenne, Wyoming with 410.
The women’s team also earned third , scoring 105 points, behind Gillette College with 405, and Eastern Wyoming College, Torrington with 205.
In the saddle bronc riding, Trump hung on to score a 66 on his first horse, and a 67 during the short-go to win.
CSC placed three in the bull riding despite no full rides in the championship round. Chasen Cole, senior of Hermosa, South Dakota, earned second with an 84 in the performance round. Ethan Lesiak, senior of Columbus, and James Butterfield , freshman of Worland, Wyoming, placed third and fifth, respectively.
Rowdy Moon, sophomore of Sargent, was the last roughstock placer, earning fourth in a highly competitive bareback event. Sheridan College’s Hunter Carlson, sophomore of Douglas, Wyoming, won with total of 180. Moon scored a 90.
Kalane Anders, junior of Bayard, was the final CSC cowboy to place, taking third in the tie-down roping, stopping the clock at 9.6 seconds in the performance round and 12.1 in the short-go.
On the women’s side, the CSC cowgirls had two placers in the top six.
Brandi Cwach, senior of Geddes, South Dakota, finished third in goat tying, with a two-round total of 16 seconds. Hanna Hostutler, sophomore of Midland, South Dakota, finished fourth in breakaway roping, tallying a time of 2.8 in her first go and a 3.3 in the second.
CSC will travel to Sheridan, Wyoming this weekend for the next rodeo of the circuit.
“I’m excited, the stock is usually great,” Trump said. “ Several people ride well at this rodeo. I’m looking forward to moving one step closer to my season goals.
