Trump addresses the State of the Union
President Donald Trump focused on America and some of his plans for the remainder of his term at his first State of the Union address Tuesday night.
Trump’s speech touched on several hot button topics including immigration and national security.
However, Trump’s main focus of the speech was “America first,” concentrating on the goal of repairing the nation’s infrastructure and continuing to see employment and economic growth within the U.S.
Trump also made a point to address the lack of unity between representatives in Congress.
“Tonight, I call upon all of us to set aside our differences, to seek out common ground and to summon the unity we need to deliver for the people … we were elected to serve,” Trump said.
Trump acknowledged several guests to during his speech, including North Korean defector Ji Seong-ho, the parents of two teenage girls who were murdered by the New York gang MS-13, 12-year-old Preston Sharp who started a movement to plant flags on the graves of veterans and several military personnel.
“This is our new American moment. There has never been a better time to start living the American dream,” Trump said.
