Eagle Track & Field perseveres at Stinger Open

The CSC Track and Field team participated in an indoor meet this past weekend in Spearfish, South Dakota. The Stinger Open, hosted by Black Hills State University, had athletes from 10 schools competing over the weekend. This meet was the final stage for the seasonal meet before the RMAC Championship. .The Eagles had 20 participants at the Stinger Open.
The Eagle men were led by thrower Cory Martens, Junior of Newton, Kansas. Martens won shot put with an outstanding mark of 54 feet, 81/4 inches making this his career-high performance, pushing him up to third place on the RMAC Performance List for the event. Martens also came in second in the 35 pound weight throw, but had a toss of 57-61/2 that was further than the school record he set in January.
The Eagle women were led by Erin Graham, Senior of Deland, Florida. Graham had a perfect record leap of 17-101/2 winning the long jump in the competition. Graham’s weekend performance pushes her to ninth place on the RMAC Performance List. The Eagles women also had Michelle Carbajal, Junior of Gypsum, Colorado, coming second in the long jump. Also in triple jump saw the season’s best participants Ashlyn Hanson, senior of Seward, and Ashton Hallsted, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming, claiming first and second place in the weight throw respectively. CSC women finished second in the team ranking with the men placing third.
