MTNA raises funds for national conference in Orlando
The CSC chapter of Music Teacher’s National Association held a community concert Friday, at Memorial Hall.
Thirteen pieces were performed at the concert, played on a variety of instruments. Amongst the performances were solo and group pieces, showcasing the talent of the MTNA members.
MTNA Chapter President Kallie Bush, 20, junior of Kimball, said the main purpose of the recital was to earn money to pay for travel to this year’s national MTNA conference.
MTNA sends students to the annual conferences to network with other music teachers and strengthen their teaching abilities through workshops and speakers.
Due to budget cuts, MTNA is not able to send as many students to this year’s Florida conference. As a result, MTNA held Friday’s concert in an effort to raise the funds necessary for travel.
MTNA currently has 10 members, and the club plans on having more events on campus throughout the year, including more concerts.
”Another reason [for the concert] is we like to get our name out there and have more people involved with MTNA,” Bush said.
Although the event only drew a modest audience, MTNA garnered donations that will aid in getting the members to the national conference in Orlando later this year.
The music department’s next event will be Brooks Hafey’s faculty recital on Monday at Memorial Hall. The recital is free and open to the public.
