Planting and Pancakes Palooza
Students planted new roots and enjoyed pancakes on the CSC campus when the Resident Life Association hosted the Planting and Pancake Palooza in The Hub at 9 p.m., last Friday.
“I expected about 45 people to come, and so far we have 42,” Mariah Nelson, assistant director of Residence Life, said. “I am very thankful for all the help that I get from the RA’s.”
Students filled plastic cups with soil and planted their own seeds while they ate pancakes cooked by RLA.
“Jazz, the AD last year, did the planting, and I thought people would like pancakes so I just combined the two,” Nelson said.
“I came for the pancakes,” Shawna Turner, 19, freshman of Rapid City, South Dakota, said. “I wish that in the future we could decorate the pots, but I got some cilantro. And, I would come to an event like this again.”
Those who attended the program choose from different vegetables, flowers and herbs, and students choose from various toppings to put on their pancakes.
“I was expecting more out of this, but it’s chill. I just came to enjoy the pancakes, and I guess that I got some wildflowers too,” Taylor Hiett, 19, freshman of Benkelman, said.
“I like plants and pancakes,” Caitlin Gustafson, 21, junior of Seward, said.
“I came because of the plants, but it was a double whammy because I like pancakes too,” Melissa VanDerslice, 22, senior of Columbus, said.
“I would come again for the pancakes,” Jamie Sigel, 22, senior of Sundance, Wyoming, said.
The Planting & Pancake program was deemed successful by Nelson and the students who attended the event. The next RLA event is Silent Library on Saturday.
