Sigma Tau Delta to attend International Convention
Five members from the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta left to attend the 2018 Sigma Tau Delta International Convention March 21-24 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Stephanie Gardener, senior of Chadron, Shaniya DeNaeyer, senior of Valentine, Lydia Privett, sophomore of Wahoo, Nalani Stewart, sophomore of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kaitlin Macke, senior of Newcastle, departed at 9 a.m. yesterday morning to attend the three day conference and are set to return Sunday.
CSC is a part of the High Plains chapter of Sigma Tau Delta which is an international organization. Gardener serves as the student representative for the High Plains chapter, while DeNaeyer serves as the assistant student representative.
Kimberly Cox, assistant professor of English and humanities, said the Sigma Tau Delta is for people that are majoring or minoring in English, or simply interested in English for future professions.
During the conference, students will be able to network with professionals, attend panels of both professionals and students, hear about current research in their field and see various creative works. Cox said students are encouraged to share research that they work on for their classes.
“It’s a good opportunity for them to get to meet people from around the world that are very likely going to be in different areas and in careers that they will be applying to eventually,” Cox said.
There will be sessions discussing English in publishing, education and creative writing.
