Eagles win four individual titles in Pueblo

The Chadron State track and field team won four individual titles at the Spank Blasing Meet hosted by Colorado State University Pueblo. The meet provided CSC with the opportunity to compete against several RMAC opponents.
The Eagle men were led by Javan Lanier, sophomore of Aurora, Colorado. Lanier won the 100-meter dash in 11.46 seconds. Lanier also placed second in the long jump at 22 feet, 11 ¾ inches.
In the running events, CSC had a couple of third place performances that supplemented Lanier’s victory in the 100-meter dash. Levi Avila, junior of Mitchell, placed third in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:59.94 and Marcus Ruhrer, freshman of Campe Verde, Arizona took third in 400-meter hurdles in 58.9 seconds.
Isaac Grimes, freshman of Rancho Verde, California won the event with a leap of 25 feet, 1 ¼ inches. The jump provided Grimes with the third best mark of the season in NCAA Division II.
The Eagle men showed their strength in the field events in Pueblo with six athletes finishing in the top three of an event. Jessie Bleidt, senior of Lewellen turned in a winning performance in the hammer throw with a toss of 183 feet, 6 inches. Tyler Koke, junior of Minatare, won the triple jump at 43 feet, 3 ¾ inches. Additionally, Gregg Peterson, junior of Thunder Ridge, Colorado and Dwayne Williams, freshman of Moreno Valley, California placed second in the javelin and triple jump respectively.
On the women’s side, the Eagles were led by the throwers. Ashton Hallsted, sophomore of Casper, Wyoming placed second in the discus and third in the hammer throw. Ashlyn Hanson, senior of Seward placed second in the javelin with a throw of 123 feet, 9 inches.
On the track, the Eagle women had strong runs in the steeplechase and the 4×400 meter relay. Alyse Henry, sophomore of Rock Springs, Wyoming placed third in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:26.36. The CSC 4×400 relay team placed fourth with a time of 4:07.75.
The Eagle track and field teams will be back in action this weekend in Canyon, Texas. The teams will compete at the West Texas A&M Classic and Multi.
