Rulon Taylor sets example for future wrestlers
CSC wrestler Rulon Taylor, 23, junior of Curtis, is setting an example for those from small towns with big dreams, on the mat and off.
“I’m pretty sure my wrestling career began when I was like, four years old and my parents put me in it, but it’s become so much more than that” Taylor said.
Throughout high school, he participated in football in addition to wrestling.
Taylor is a state champion, state runner up, and has placed at state.
In 2013, Taylor started attending CSC and then took two years off to go on a mission trip to Honduras.
He is now fluent in Spanish and is currently finishing up his junior year here at CSC.
While wrestling for the Eagles, Taylor has placed fourth at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Open, fifth at the 2018 RMAC Tournament, and sixth at the regional tournament.
“Life wouldn’t be the same without wrestling. I’ve learned to rely on myself, be accountable for my own actions, and that you can’t just do something halfway. You’re really only as good as you want to be,” Taylor said.
Taylor thinks that wearing his
signature white socks when he competes helps his performance overall, and disclosed that his favorite music to get pumped up to is 80’s rock.
Growing up surrounded by
agriculture, Taylor always knew ranching would be something that would interest him, which is why he decided to be a rangeland management major.
Taylor loves his horse back home named Jake and his biggest role model is his dad.
Taylor’s advice for those who are looking to wrestle at the collegiate level is,
“Don’t underestimate yourself. You can achieve more than you think, as long as you’re willing to work towards it.”
Taylor hopes to become an environmental consultant and a wrestling coach.
