Women’s cross country second at Woody Greeno

The CSC women’s cross country team captured second place, and the men fourth, this past Saturday in Lincoln, as the group took part in their third meet of the season at Nebraska Wesleyan University’s Woody Green / Jay Dirksen Cross Country Meet.

The Eagles’ women, who had 51 points at the meet, were second only to host team Nebraska Wesleyan, which had 23.

Wesleyan placed three top-five runners, including senior Hanna Hegemann and junior Ellie Beiermann, who took first and second places respectively, ahead of CSC senior Alyse Henry, of Rock Springs, Wyoming, who finished third with a time of 23 minutes, 50 seconds.

CSC teammate Savannah Silbaugh, junior, of Upton, Wyoming, ran the course in 24 minutes, 57.8 seconds to join Henry in the top-ten at eighth place.

Eagles’ sophomore women’s runners Catherine Orban, Emma Willadsen and Madison Watson all cracked the top-20 at the meet. Orban was 11th finishing in 25 minutes, 13.5 seconds; Willadsen was 12th with 25 minutes, 21.5 seconds; and Watson was 17th with 25 minutes, 48.1 seconds. 

Freshman teammate Sydeny Settles placed 21st with a time of 25 minutes, 57.9 seconds.

The Chadron State men’s runners had 113 points at the meet, placing them fourth behind Cloud County Community College who had 25 points, Nebraska Wesleyan who had 47 and Northwest Missouri who had 67.

Sheldon Curley, sophomore of Ganado, Arizona, paced the Eagles’ men finishing ninth with a time of 27 minutes, 12.6 seconds. 

Freshman teammates Jesse Jaramillo and Michael Jaso were Chadron’s next best finishers, Jaramillo placing 18th with a time of 28 minutes, 2.9 seconds; and Jaso in 20th with a time of 28 minutes, 30 seconds. 

The Eagles’ runners won’t compete again until October 6 when they travel to Metropolitan State University of Denver’s Roadrunner Invite at Washington Park.
