Registration open for cattle grazing conference
The Nebraska Lands Coalition and Nebraska Extension will present “Grazing Research and Cattle Management Through a Holistic Lens,” featuring Jason Rowntree, associate professor of Animal Science at Michigan State University.
The conference will be held in the CSC Student Center from 5-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Pre-registration is required by all, including students. Deadline for registration is Nov. 9.
High school and college students will receive free admission. The cost of the conference for community members is $15, and this includes the cost of a meal.
Jason Rowntree’s presentation topics will include changes from a conventional cow-calf research facility to a lower input grazing and grass finishing operation, impacts of grazing management on the land, impact of grass finishing strategies on cattle, forage and carcass traits, changes in industry attitudes towards beef and grass finishing, and future considerations of grazing management and the market place.
“I hope everyone will just gain a different perspective,” Arterburn said.
The Nebraska Lands Coalition and Nebraska Extension want to bring a different way of doing things to this community through this new data.
“The reason we like Dr. Jason Rowntree so much is because he is a professor, and he has all of the data to back these new methods up,” Arterburn said.
“People are interested in where their food is coming from,” Arterburn said.
