Events Committee announces Spring Daze schedule
Students can mark their calendars for the last week in April for Spring Daze and the Nearly Naked Mile, according to Senate’s Events Committee.
During yesterday’s general assembly, Senator Aaron Wood, senior of Ogallala, announced that Spring Daze and the Nearly Naked Mile is set to start Tuesday, April 23, and will end Sunday, April 28. The week will begin with Mr. and Mrs. Spring Daze on Tuesday, the 23rd. Wood anticipates registration for Mr. and Mrs. Spring Daze will “probably be open one week prior to (the event), so April 15-19.”
The Nearly Naked Mile will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, and a pool party will run concurrently from 7-9 p.m. RLA will team up with Spring Daze to host the Student Appreciation Bash from 5-7 p.m, Friday, April 26. Free Movie Night is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, April 28, to wrap up Spring Daze.
President Lukas Klueber, junior of Rapid City, South Dakota, reported that the NPAC Committee will hold off by-law revision discussions until after spring break. Klueber said the committee has been working on drafting by-laws and a mission statement, but the process has proved to be an “important task”.
“It sounds like not very much, but the by-laws are proving to be a more important task,” Klueber said. “Doing activities in the NPAC and how we use that student activity fee money in that facility is important, so we’re drafting up our mission statement and that should be presented by the next meeting.”
AFB Vice Chair of Finance Lily Umeta, sophomore of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, announced that Senate currently has $10,431.91 in unallocated funds. According to Umeta, organizations have spent $46,563.35, with $96,561.94 still unused by clubs. Umeta urged clubs to use their remaining money before the semester ends.
“You guys asked for it, we allocated for it, so you guys have to use it,” Umeta said.
Money has been allocated for 15 trips so far, totaling $23,405.91.
AFB budget packets are due by midnight, March 1. Clubs can submit the packets via Sakai or by emailing AFB at [email protected]. Sign-up sheets for budget hearings, which are scheduled for March 11-15, are located on the Senate office door.
The Eagle designated $5,000 to The Big Event from their Acclaim budget. President Klueber recommended that The Eagle should email Adviser Megan Northrup and The Big Event staff to confirm the donation.
Chief Justice Samantha Merrill, senior of Oral, South Dakota, read the Court’s opinion on Klueber v. Guerrero, a petition where Vice President Konery Klueber, junior of Rapid City, filed against Senator Leah Guerrero, sophomore of Evans, Colorado, in violation of attendance laws. The Court ruled in favor of Klueber and ordered Guerrero “to attend all regular special meetings” and to “strictly follow all attendance guidelines filled out in Senate by-laws”.
Merrill also announced that Senate election petitions are due by 5 p.m. Friday, March 15.
Though Advising Month is drawing to a close, students can still schedule a meeting with their advisers and register for Fall 2019 classes.
Adviser Deena Kennell reminded students to register for classes and announced that students who remain on campus during spring break can use their meal plan to receive free packets of food and food items.
RLA will be hosting several events during this week, starting with “Chopped” at 8 p.m., tomorrow, in the Hub. RLA will team up with The Big Event with “Midterm Struggle Bus”, an event that will serve breakfast, lunch and supper all day, will start at 7 a.m. with donuts, Subway at noon and pizza at 5 p.m.
Free Movie Night is scheduled for Sunday, March 17. Featured movies will be announced at a later date.
