Johnson and Gonzales advocate for “Feed a Hungry Senior”
Chadron CAPstone is hosting “Tiles of Hope” which is a fundraiser supporting children who are victims of abuse. Tiles are $25 and can be decorated for a mural on the wall of the CAPstone building.
Frances Gonzales, of Chadron, and Rachel Johnson, of Chadron are hosting “Feed a Hungry Senior,” which is a project to help feed seniors who cannot pay for Meals on Wheels or meals at the Chadron Senior Center. Johnson explained that many seniors are forced to choose between paying for utilities, food and medication.
“They (seniors) shouldn’t have to make those choices, but there are no funding options available for this particular group of people,” Johnson said.
Clubs and individuals wanting to help can sell raffle tickets for a Rapid City Rush hockey game package. The package includes a free night in the Hotel Alex Johnson, Howard Johnson or Fairfield Inn and Suites as well as a restaurant gift certificate for a meal at either Red Lobster or Texas Road House. Tickets cost $10 per chance or $25 for three chances to win the package.
The top seller will win two tickets to the event as well. Tickets need to be sold by Wednesday, March 20, and the drawing is Thursday, March 21.
“Feed a Hungry Senior” will precede “Don’t Dump It, Donate It,” an event scheduled for May 1-4 that allows students to donate dorm items they would ordinarily throw away. More information on that will be available as the dates draw closer.
Student Activities Coordinator Megan Northrup will send out forms for students to nominate faculty for the first annual “Outstanding Student Advisor Award” to recognize those who help students out. Northrup said this is an opportunity for recognition for professors that put in extra work to ensure student success.
“We really want to recognize those professors who go above and beyond to help out,” Northrup said.
Co-founder of the Positive Life Company Amy Dix will speak to CSC students about positivity Thursday, March 21, 5-8 p.m. at the Student Center Ballroom. Leadership sessions will follow.
RA applications are due Friday, March 22.
RLA is hosting “National Popcorn Lover’s Day” tonight at 7 p.m. in the Breezeway, “Kent Hall Kegger” Friday at 9 p.m. in The Landing where root beer floats and activities will be provided. “St. Patrick’s Day Celebration” is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. in The Hub where students can participate in various holiday-themed activities.
The Pit is hosting its “Casino Night” Thursday, March 21, and is looking for clubs who can help. For more information, contact Pit staff.
CAB is hosting “Free Movie Night” Sunday at the Eagle Theater. Featured movies will be posted on CAB’s social media pages later in the week. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. attendees are encouraged to bring IDs.
