Put schoolwork above social media

There is no doubt social media has become part and parcel of a student’s daily life, but does social media affect an individual’s education drastically?

Personally, I enjoy the use of social media, and quite truthfully most people do too, but when I stop to think for a second how much time I spend on social media I feel utter disappointment. This is due to the fact that the time and energy I put into social media, Instagram more specifically, could be fully invested into working immensely on projects that will be beneficial in the long run.

Certainly, it’s a bit of a hard decision to give it up, but you can also try to limit the time you spend on these platforms to focus on what is important, like your education. I sat down one day to reflect on the hours I constantly squander when it boils down to the use of social platforms. Smartphones are now very common, and as we revolutionize technology, upgrading certain features on these devices is more or less the centerpiece of our addiction now. With the new changes and feature upgrades, students are prone to focus more of their attention on discovering what the new wave is. It gets addictive and engaging when new apps on your technological device are eye-catching and intriguing. I’m not saying social media and its upgraded apps on your electronics is a bad thing, but the catch is, social media can go both ways depending on how an individual utilizes certain apps, also time efficiency is key. Consider what you could be using your precious time for? To complete an assignment due in an hour or sit there and scroll through the unimportant stuff for those few hours, minutes or seconds.

I’m guilty of it, and I’m certain most college students are. The bottom line is this; prioritize the important stuff first. Social media will, forever and always, be in existence.
