Students compete for best pumpkin carving
Madisen Grenstiner, 20, sophomore of Wasta, South Dakota, carved her way to first prize with a pumpkin carving of Stich, from Disney’s “Lelo and Stitch”, playing a ukulele. She won a plastic pumpkin full of candy.
About 55 students participated in RLA’s Spooktacular Pumpkin Carving even, Wednesday, Oct. 9 in the Hub.
After the students had cleaned and carved about 40 pumpkins, they were given a candle to light them. They were then presented on a table for the students to vote on the best carving on the CSC Rewards app.
“The event was a success,” Christian Miller, 23, first-year graduate student of Minatare said. Miller coordinated the event.
“We had great feedback from participants and residents who just wanted to see the carvings.”
Miller said.
RLA wanted to use the event to reach out to those who may not come to their usual events while also doing something within the fall season.
RLA used just $350 of their $500 budget, including buying 50 pumpkins and the utensils to carve them. They also provided Halloween themed snacks for participants.
RLA continued their schedule of events with Create a Float Night on Wednesday, Oct. 16, and a Video Game Tournament, Thursday Oct. 17 in the Scottsbluff room.
