Senate eyes January date to reschedule Eli Young concert
This week senate discussed its recent trip to Peru State College and began looking at dates to reschedule the Eli Young Concert.
Senate sent nine members to Peru State College over midterm break to attend the annual NSCS Conference. The conference highlighted speakers that touched on leadership and shared personal stories.
“Overall, it kind of encouraged young leaders to not wait to take action,” President Lukus Klueber. “We are very good leaders at our age and we can’t shy away from taking on tasks because of our age or because of the stigma that we have to be older to take on leadership tasks.”
A task force was put together to start plans for next year’s conference, which will be hosted at CSC.
Senate began discussions to find a rescheduled date for the Eli Young concert that was supposed to take place on Oct. 10. Jan. 24 was discussed by the senate, but an official decision has yet to be made.
The discussion to allocate $2,500 for motivational speaker Chris Singleton was reopened after being tabled at the Sept. 30 meeting. After learning that the money was needed because athletics does not have a budget due to the budget cuts for the Math and Science building renovation, senate approved to allocate the full amount.
National Survey Student Engagement, requested $261 from senate to fund another survey for students and faculty. Lee Miller said this survey would compare the thoughts about the campus and bring new ideas about how the campus could be improved. Senate approved the full amount requested.
Professional Business leaders requested $1,028 to help pay for the flight and hotel room for their adviser as a part of their upcoming trip to New York. Senate approved the request, but the funds will have to be reimbursed by Feb. 28, 2020.
Senate has $37,578.88 in total unallocated funds and $22,584.86 in unallocated trip funds.
The application for Student Trustee is open until 4 p.m. on Nov. 4.
