Gamers unite for Pit video game tournament

On Thursday night The Pit hosted an unique event for all gamers to come together and play a few rounds of football, basketball, or other combat fighting video games.

Different TV sets were available around the room for people to play or just watch the excitement. There were also a couple of board and card games. A big projector screen was displaying a game on the wall for people to watch and root for players.

Sign up was at 6 p.m. at the Scottsbluff room. Games began at 7 p.m. and lasted until about 10 p.m. Around 38 students signed  up, but The Pit workers were sure there were more people who participated in and did not sign in.

Nick Foote, 20, sophomore of Scottsbluff said they prepared for about 50 people to attend, but with the midterm break, they were not able to spread the word to everyone as much as they would have liked.

However, that was not stopping them from still planning and setting up this event.

“It’s an annual event, and I’m just lucky enough to be a part of it,” Foote said.

Complimentary drinks, mini sandwiches and other snacks were provided by co-sponsor, Omega Phi Rho. Prizes were also given out to the winners.

The Pit will continue their weekly events with a soccer tournament  tonight at the NPAC. Sign-ups will be from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Five players are needed for each team.
