Student artwork showcased in library basement
This Wednesday, the Reta King Library basement turned into an art gallery courtesy of the Library staff and RLA, for the Art in the Library event. This event brings students from various disciplines and majors, together, to carve out imagination with easels and watercolors with the sole intent of the beautification of the library’s basement walls.
“This event is the second yearly event, the first one was in 2019”, Christine Fullerton, Chadron State College’s Librarian said, “The idea was a combination of a rotating art gallery and a sip and paint”, Fullerton said, “we all know how much people love sip and paints and we hoped to bring a version of that to the students. So far we believe that the event has been well received as we have had a steady participation rate both years.”
Creativity ran wild in the room as imagery reminiscent of the Cappadocia hot air balloons landscape, Mexican desert cacti and Mount Rushmore graced the canvases. Spirits ran high as students conversed among themselves and let their creative juices flow onto their canvas. Hannah Goodwin, 19 of Rapid City, South Dakota was one of the students present and this event and shared her impressions on the event with the Eagle, “It was really fun”, Goodwin said, “The painting is really enjoyable and it is a real stress reliever”.
Sadie Sheppard, Senior from Fargo, ND was present representing RLA and also took part in the activity. “This is a really fun event, not only does it help to bring more color to the library basement,” Sheppard said, “it also promotes community and art among the students”. Sheppard said.
All art work from this event are available for the public’s viewing at the Reta King’s Library basement until May, 2020.
