USAID farmer to farmer presentation brought to CSC
Approximately 10 students and faculty members were present in the Rangeland Complex, Classroom 213, on Wednesday, Nov. 6, as Todd Flynn, a farmer and a lawyer from Ainsworth, Nebraska, spoke on the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Farmer to Farmer Program. Flynn detailed his experience, in South East Africa, precisely in Tanzania and Uganda.
The initiative is volunteer based and seeks to provide technical assistance to agribusiness in third world countries with the aim of improving on sustainable farming techniques, food security and economic growth. These goals will be achieved through acquiring expertise and volunteer, who are hosted for a period of two to six weeks, help. All expenses related to housing, travel and accommodation are paid by USAID. The enterprise’s main focus is agriculture, but qualified individuals with different levels of expertise from different disciplines are welcome to apply.
Flynn then detailed his personal adventures through photographs of the landscapers and stories.
He finished his speech by encouraging college students to participate in such experiences not only are they great resume builders but since they are on a short commitment basis it is a great opportunity to get exposure and try something new while still making a decision on a career path.
