RLA initiative seeks to start Spanish club
Familia, meaning family in Spanish, will be the newest addition to the CSC Club dynasty. The club, will be a place where Spanish speaking students can feel welcome and at home. The club will be open to intermediate Spanish speakers so they can practice the language and immerse themselves in the culture. This will be a place where students can be re-energized, have their culture represented and enjoy each other’s company.
Currently there are still no plans for future cultural events. Once the club is up and running members will decide on the course they intend the club to follow. Presently ,the club hopes to accomplish the provision of a cultural space, a place of enjoyment and relaxation with good food and even better company.
This is a RLA initiative that came about due to the rising numbers of the Spanish speaking community on campus.
“The primary reason to start the club was to give the native Spanish speakers a comfortable place where they can express themselves in their language. Intermediate level speakers who need a place to practice are also welcome, as there are not a lot of places locally to improve one’s Spanish skills. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to come hang for a while, enjoy the food and practice Español.” Taylor Osmotherly, Director of RLA said.
Osmotherly hopes that other languages will be represented on campus, through other student organizations.
The Spanish Club is a representation of CSC’s diverse student population.
Students or community members interested in joining the Spanish Club should look for emails from RLA, posters or contact Taylor Osmotherly at [email protected].
