RLA provides healthy snacking options
RLA organized a healthy snacking option event as part of the health and wellness week, Tuesday Nov. 19, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Hub. Healthy snack options was the main focus for second day for wellness week. The event was held in order to teach students to make healthy alternatives for snacks.
About 50 students participated. The event had plenty to eat with varieties including trail mix, candy, flavored yoghurts, salted peanuts, popcorn, water and chocolate chips.
According to RA Tori Meschke, 20, Junior of Broken Bow explained the snacking options RLA provided.
“So this event is to promote wellness and healthy alternatives for students around campus. So, we have pretzels and popcorn instead of French fries or something along those lines. Yesterday we had fruit cups, and tomorrow we have kickball, that way we are promoting exercise when you don’t even know that you are exercising. It’s just something fun to do that students get involved in. We also have the pool party on Friday and might do some water polo and fun activities.”
“Our budget was about $220 that is about what we have spent. So far we have up 60 students signed in and we running out pretty quick,” Meschke said. Brooke Chromosta, junior of Ravenna was at the snacking event.
“I like the event, its good. They are trying their best to get healthy options and encouraging students to be active.” Chromosta said.
