Senate tables student activity fee discussion

Senate tabled the ongoing student activity fee discussion until further notice at this week’s student senate meeting, stating that it wants to actively focus on one discussion at a time.

The decision was made so any changes emerging from the discussion on hybrid classes would not be affected by the changes that may be made to the student activity fee.

“We realized that the hybrid class discussion needs to be finalized prior to stepping into the fee discussion just because if things happen to be adjusted, depending on how things line up with that hybrid class discussion,” said Vice President Konery Klueber. “We just want to make sure that those classes are set in stone and everyone understanding what those classes mean before we start assessing fees to them.”

It was also announced that due to a busy schedule, CSC’s Vice President of Administration and Finance Kari Gaswick was unable to attend the senate meeting and answer questions the senators had on the potential changes.

Gaswick is planning on attending the next senate meeting on Feb. 17.

President Lukas Klueber, Vice President Konery Klueber, and Student Trustee Samuel Klammer are planning to meet with Vice President of Academic Affairs James Powell soon to discuss adjusting hybrid classes as a whole, not just the family and consumer science courses.

> Brought to senate at Feb. 3 meeting, the $3,500 request from Professor Kim Madsen was addressed. AFB recommended $2,500, stating that it will become standard procedure that that amount is the max that senate will allocate for speakers. Senate approved this recommendation, however the money will come out of the fall 2020 budget.

> FCA was denied its request for $8,000 to attend an upcoming retreat in Colorado. AFB stated that the retreat was not a professional development retreat and therefore could not be funded by senate.

> Club budget hearings will begin on March 23 and end on the 26. Court appeals will be held on March 27. Clubs must have an itemized budget prepared and have an updated binder full of the club’s information. These binders are required and will be given to senate at the end of the semester to help clubs transition into the next school year.
