Pop-up food pantry coming to campus Monday
Following the success of the pilot pop-up food pantry held in February, a second will take place on campus this week.
Students will be able to pick up bags of non-perishable food items from the entryway of the CSC library Monday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. In order to receive a bag, students must have their NUID number.
According to Christine Fullerton, a librarian at CSC, there were to be three pop-up food pantries happening this semester, the second planned for March. However, due to the disruption of COVID-19 to campus activities, it was canceled. Last week, student senate allocated the funds to host the food pantry and, after speaking with campus administration, Fullerton decided to continue with the pop-up food pantry planned for April.
The aim of the pop-up food pantry is still to help students on campus who might be suffering from food insecurity and are afraid to step forward.
“This is a continuation of a project designed to address food insecurity on campus,” said Fullerton. “This is a nationwide issue, and we think this is a particularly difficult time for many students.”
Fullerton said they will observe proper safety guidelines suggested by the CDC. The distribution table will be wiped down regularly and volunteers will be using hand sanitizer. Students are asked to observe a six-foot buffer.
